Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission approves historic mark for Frank Piaseki

In 1943, Frank Piasecki flew the world's second practical helicopter, soon after he designed a tandem helicopter for lifting heavy loads. In 1947 he founded the Piasecki Helicopter company that later became the Vertical Flight Division of Boeing Aircraft. This high-technology enterprise remains in the Philadelphia area and is an important unit of the local economy. Frank Piasecki devoted a major part of his life to the development of vertical fight and richly deserves his place among the leading four pioneer helicopter builders.
