This event will be a collaboration with NSBE’s Philadelphia Professional Chapter, NSBE ‘s local
            Collegiate Chapters, NCEES & PECO. The purpose is to expose local college students;
            particularly juniors and senior pursing engineering or closely related STEM degrees, to the
            NCEES certifications: the Engineering in Training certification (EIT) and the Professional
            Engineering license (PE). Currently, there’s a lack of minority licensed engineers across all
            industries. As of 2022, its estimated that there are nearly 5k professional engineers and of that
            figure, the lowest percentages are attributed to minorities: Asian (12.6%), Hispanic or Latino
            (11.7%) Black or African American (4%). We would like to increase these percentages by
            educating aspiring engineers on the benefits and responsibilities of a professional engineer in
            addition to the requirement for obtaining a EIT certification and ultimately, a PE license.
            All universities don’t prepare junior and senior year students for the technical exams necessary
            to obtain their EIT certification upon graduation and because of this, many young professionals
            enter the workforce at a deficit. Therefore, it’s extremely beneficial for students not only to have
            the awareness of this certification but to have obtained it upon or shortly after graduation.
