Communicating in Today's Wired World
Date & Time: Thursday June 20, 2019 5:00 - 7:00 PM
Location: Laporte Consultants King of Prussia, PA 19406
Speaker: Giselle Johnston
In today's wired world, there is a variety of communication techniques for engineers, including written reports, conference calls, video conferencing, face-to-face meetings, texting, emails, and social media platforms. Each method has its own features with its own strengths and weaknesses. This presentation will discuss the pros and cons of different communication methods. The choice of a communication method depends on its purpose, its timeliness, accuracy and the importance of body language in communication. Additionally, role of local languages, cultures and differences in time zones will be discussed. Finally, some guidelines will be presented for communication to be both effective and efficient.
We are delighted to have this discussion led by Giselle Johnston of Laporte Consultants. Giselle, a process and validation engineer with interests in career development, networking and leadership, is a past Chair of the AICHE DVS.
