Topic:

A Presentation on Utility Coordination and Relocation Challenges facing Transportation Projects

The Utility Process for any transportation project can be challenging, frustrating and rewarding at the same time. On most transportation projects, utilities are impacted. Design changes, accelerated schedules, lead time to order materials, and limited ROW, construction staging requirements, seasonal restrictions and temporary facilities are some examples that can cause significant delays and costs to transportation projects. The design of the utility facility located within the project limits requires coordination among the agencies that own the facility, the designer and the utility owners. Utility Relocations Plans, Checklist, Cost Estimates and Utility Agreements are prepared during the design phases of a project. Minimizing utility relocations during the design and development of transportation projects can lead to faster project delivery and lower costs. (1 PDH)
