Abstract:

Energy and Water savings in a plant processes are high priorities for existing and modern industrial plant operations. Alfa Laval has been providing heat exchanger as well as separation equipment design expertise in both these areas over the past 50 years. This presentation will provide insights on how plate heat exchanger advances have evolved to provide improved performance and reliability compared to traditional shell and tube heat exchangers. Alfa Laval will review the basic modes of heat transfer that differentiate between the primary heat exchanger commercial design types. Practical knowledge of process systems and how the heat exchanger affects the upstream and downstream process conditions are some of the important topics that will be discussed as well as considerations of efficient operation and reliability of heat exchangers. Case history installations provide proof positive of the pay back benefits of conversion from shell and tube to compact plate designs.

Course Outline:

  • Heat Transfer Theory: Heat Transfer Modes & Optimize Heat Transfer Equipment
  • Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers: Shell & Tube Design Heat Transfer Modes
  • Plate Heat Exchanger: Types & Features & Their Effect on Heat Transfer Modes
  • Case History Applications: Batch and Continuous Industrial Processes

Biography:

Evan has been working with Alfa Laval's Application Engineering group supporting Sales and Marketing for a myriad of Industrial heat transfer markets for 5 years. Before joining Alfa Laval, Evan consulted and worked for several pressure vessel and metal manufacturing companies involved in metallic and nonmetallic materials of construction for pressure vessels intended for corrosive and high temperature process conditions. With over 30 years of experience in both plate and shell and tube experience in applications, fabrication methods, and materials of construction selection, Evan brings design and construction insight for optimization of heat exchanger equipment and their upstream and downstream impact on process performance and reliability.
