Description:

The Coplay-Northampton (Chestnut Street) Bridge (S.R. 7404, Section 07M) Rehabilitation project is located in an urban area crossing the Lehigh River between Coplay and Northampton Boroughs. It is a local municipal bridge rehabilitation project owned by Lehigh County.

The project reconstructed the bridge deck and installed new piers upon the existing pier foundations. The west and east approach spans use conventional prestressed concrete PA Bulb-Tee beams. The 3 main spans over the Lehigh River use spliced, post-tensioned, prestressed concrete PA Bulb Tee beams. This is the first use of spliced prestressed concrete beams in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The post tensioned beamsalso incorporate electrically isolated tendons. The proposed structure is 8 spans and 1116’ in length. It carries one lane of traffic in the eastbound and westbound directions and pedestrian traffic on eastbound side.
