What’s New in Renewable Energy?
Cost: No Charge. Registration is required.
SPEAKER: Finley R. Shapiro
Electricity generation by renewable energy has grown rapidly in recent years, driven by popular demand, government support, and greater economic justification due to decreasing costs and improving technology. 20% of electricity generated in the US in 2021 was from renewable sources, including about 9% wind, 6% hydro, 3% solar, and the remainder biomass and geothermal. These numbers are growing rapidly. Electricity generation capacity added in the US in 2021 was about 40% wind, 40% solar, and only 20% natural gas.
This talk will discuss progress, trends and future directions in renewable electricity generation, especially by wind and sunlight. The effects of increased renewable generation on the electric power grid will also be discussed.
PDH certificates are available and an evaluation form will be emailed to you after the meeting. PDH certificate are sent by IEEE USA 3-4 weeks after the meeting.
