The GATSME Model Railroad Museums mission is to educate the public on the art and history of model railroading, and how the real railroads had a large impact on the development of our region.

GATSME began in 1952 and had a couple of different locations in the Fort Washington area. The railroad grew beyond the size of the founder’s home, and moved into the basement of a pizza shop on Pennsylvania Ave.The club moved into the former Fort Washington Elementary School at the corner of Madison Ave and Prospect Rd in 1975, and remained there until 2013.

The museum and model railroad are currently located in Rockledge, PA, in the “Old Mill” building at the corner of Montgomery and Sylvania Aves. The layout is set circa 1950, with a good mix of steam and diesel locomotives. The theme is based on the Schuylkill Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad with plans for expansion to include local branches of the Reading Railroad.

The layout is constantly growing and there is plenty of rail operation.Areas under construction provide an opportunity to see stages of scenery, track and roadbed techniques, wiring and electronic (DCC) train control.Club members will be around to answer any questions.
