ASME PHILADELPHIA SECTION - JAN 2019 FAIRMOUNT WATER WORKS TOUR

JAN 29 2019 6PM
Mr. Drew Brown of the Philadelphia Water Department
will provide us with a presentation and tour of the
Fairmount Water Works describing its history and
innovative design features. The Fairmount Water Works
is a National Mechanical Engineering Landmark, Civil
Engineering Landmark, American Water Works
Association Landmark, and U.S. National Historic
Landmark. The Water Works was built in stages between
1812 and 1861 on the Schuylkill River at the foot of the
prominent hill called Faire Mount, and remained a key
part of the City’s water system until 1909. It is world-renowned
for the ingenuity displayed in its engineering
and architectural design.
